The Story of Freedom of Expression, 2017

In 2017, the festivals held in Tampere Region celebrated the 100th anniversary of Finland’s independence by putting freedom of expression at the heart of their programmes. Over the year 2017, each of the 27 members of the festival network created their own version of the story of freedom of expression. These stories were seen and heard in all artistic forms, from ice sculptures to dance improvisation and from choral works to street paintings. The media company Reunamedia captured the festival stories on video recordings, which can be viewed on the Tampere Region Festivals YouTube channel.

The Story of Freedom of Expression was funded by the Prime Minister’s Office and the festivals’ own funding, and it was part of the “Finland 100” programme celebrating Finland’s centenary of independence.
