In 2012–2015, Tampere Region Festivals ran two projects focusing on cultural tourism: the Culture Tampere Region project aimed at developing cultural tourism in Tampere Region (2012–2014) and the Culture Finland regional coordination project for cultural tourism in Tampere Region (2014–2015).
The projects aimed to increase the competence and turnover of cultural tourism operators in Tampere Region and to create new cultural tourism products for the region. In addition, the goal was to create a functional cultural tourism network and to strengthen the importance of cultural tourism at regional and national level. The projects were funded by the Council of Tampere Region – with the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) – and with the support of the relevant municipalities and cities as well as operators in the tourism and cultural sectors.
