Backlight is a photo festival organised in Tampere since 1987 by the Photographic Centre Nykyaika. It is one of the oldest photo festivals in Northern Europe. The event is held every three years, and it exhibits interesting, contemporary international photography with a programme built around changing current themes. In addition to exhibitions, the festival features Meet the Artist sessions, workshops and more. The exhibitions and events are open to everyone and generally free of charge.
